Blog - Last-Minute Thanksgiving Inspiration for Farmhouse Chic
With all the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the details that make Thanksgiving Day so special often get lost in the shuffle. Unfortunately, the excitement of getting together with family and friends is now getting replaced by the excitement of going to the shops and retailers with the best shopping deals.
Need some last-minute decorating ideas to take your Thanksgiving holiday to the next level? Here at Trendspot, we’ve been inspired by the farmhouse, country-chic decor that has taken the decorating world by storm! So we’ve put together some quick, easy ideas to make your holiday come alive.
Farmhouse-Inspired Signage
Whether you’re getting ready for the holidays, or even just want to add some country-chic flair to your home year-round, these DIY farmhouse signs will add character to any home.
All you need is some wood, paint, and a printer, and you’re off to the races! You can either choose to leave the wood as is for a distressed look or add a fresh coat of paint. Then, create letters using stencils printed on cardstock. You can find some great templates online. Cut the letters and position the stencils on the wood plank, painting them in the color you desire. Then distress the sign with a mouse sander.
Now, place your handcrafted signs throughout your home for an authentic, farmhouse vibe!
Wood Slat Displays for Artwork
Incorporate fun artwork while also keeping your chic farmhouse style intact. Many of us have saved drawings or paintings of turkeys with feathers made of their handprints and body made of footprints. These are great to display, and the artist responsible will feel touched (yes, even if it’s from your son who is too much of a “guy” to admit it).
All you need are some wood slats, interior stain, a stain brush, metal clips or clothespins, nails, a hammer, and some measuring tape. Apply stain to wood slats and let dry completely. You can use a sander to distress the wood if you’d like. Then measure the board and determine how many clips or clothespins you’ll need for the artwork. Use some glue or nails to append the clips to the wood slat, or add some rope for a rustic touch. Then hang the boards on the wall with a sawtooth hanger or some wire.
Now you can proudly display the masterpieces! The artwork doesn’t have to be of turkeys — it can be anything Thanksgiving-themed.
A Festive Dining Area
Probably the most important area of focus for this holiday, the dining space needs some special care and attention. Here you can get creative! Achieving that country-chic style in your dining area doesn’t have to take months of preparation, especially with a few designer tricks under your belt.
Looking for easy to arrange centerpieces? There are endless ideas! Find some small succulents at any big-box store or nursery, and place them next to some grapes or ornamental squash on a vintage serving tray for a nice arrangement.
Or, if you’re feeling a little bolder, purchase a head of cabbage, cut out the center and set it on a small vase with some water. Then fill the opening of the cabbage with your favorite flowers and surround it with little berries or artichokes!
Need an easy, yet fancy table runner? Why not use doilies? All you need are some cloth doilies, gold lace trim, and some glue, and you are on your way to a festive table setting that will add a rustic touch to your holiday dinner. Check out this easy how-to video to get started.
A Memorable Entrance
Create a memorable experience for your visiting family and friends…by starting with the front door! It can be done with some simple finds. If you’re on a serious time crunch, purchase a fall door wreath to hang on your door; then, just take it up a notch by creating the farmhouse sign we suggested earlier in our post and hanging it over the wreath for a welcoming vibe!
Also, you can also place a chalkboard sign in the entryway close to the door, and set it on top of a table or a mantle if you have one. Write some welcoming sentiment on it to let your guests know you’re happy to have them in your home!
All of us at Trendspot want to wish you and your loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving!
