Blog - Halloween Porch Décor on a Budget
Every season, there are tons of holiday decorations for sale at every store you step into, and Halloween is no exception. Ready to get your spooky on without breaking the bank? We have some adorable Halloween porch décor ideas that are easy-to-make and totally budget friendly.
DIY Hanging Ghosts
You only need a few supplies for this project: small plastic bowls, twine, white cloth and black felt (or markers) to create the ghostly eyes and mouths. For a variation on this idea that is easier to do with kids, try using balloons as the base so you won’t have to cut into plastic.
A festive porch motif looks best when featuring items placed both low and high, so pair these hanging ghosts with pumpkins by the door to create a lot of visual interest.
Googly Eyeball Wreath
We’re in love with new takes on classic wreaths, and this creepy eyeball wreath is certainly something your visitors will remember! To boot, the project requires affordable craft materials that are easy to find. Just cover a foam wreath frame with black feathers, and add ping pong balls colored with marker to look like eyes. The wide black ribbon makes a stunning statement, but other Halloween colors like orange and purple would be striking as well.
Spooky Branches
It doesn’t get much more affordable than free! On your next nature walk, keep an eye out for fallen branches. The more twisted and gnarled the better. You can prop them up beside your door or in the corner of your porch. You can use tall pumpkins to help keep them in place. Add DIY papier-mâché bats or ravens to a few of the twigs for an all-out spooky look.
Ghostly Draperies
These hanging drapes bring a chilling, ominous vibe to your porch decor. To recreate them, dye long strips of cheesecloth using tea bags, and then use scissors and sand paper to further distress the fabric.
Stenciled Bat Doormat
Welcome guests with a simple-to-make doormat that will be right up your dark alley. Head to your local home improvement or garden supply store and find a thick coir doormat with a plain surface and black enamel spray paint. Create the bats using cardstock cut outs and pin them to the mat before spraying. If you prefer black bats instead of cutouts, then simply reverse the stencils by laying one big piece of cardstock down and cutting out bats where you want them to be placed.
Creatively Carved Pumpkin
We’ve all seen swoon-worthy jack-o-lanterns and doubted our artistic skills. If you’ve ever been to the Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular in Providence, Rhode Island, then you know that jack-o-lantern envy is a real thing. If you can’t out carve ‘em, then out smart ‘em with a clever design. This cute little masterpiece is made up of some very simple shapes. The secret to making a simple design really stand out is to have some elements (like these owl’s wings) scraped out instead of carved.
With these budget-friendly ideas, your porch will be Halloween-ready in no time! Just a few simple craft materials are all it takes to create a porch that will welcome adorable trick-or-treaters and maybe a few ghosts and goblins too.
